Upgrading from a 1060 — what is the sensible jump?
Coming back after a long break and trying to catch up. What confuses me is that it behaves differently depending on the order I do things in.

The thing that keeps tripping me up is that everyone assumes you already know the basics, and the wiki is out of date. Will update the post if I find a cleaner solution.

From experience, this changed for me after the last patch, so older threads may steer you wrong.

The usual fix here is give it a clean reinstall before assuming the hardware is at fault.
Report back once you have tried it.

Worth a shot before anything drastic.

From experience, verify the files before anything else; it catches more problems than people expect.

Quick correction to the above: do not copy someone else’s config wholesale — start from defaults and adjust to your own setup.
Let us know which part worked.

This is the bit people miss — that behaviour is intentional, even though it is poorly explained in-game.

Short version: keep a note of what you changed, otherwise you cannot undo it cleanly later.

In my testing, it is almost always a setting rather than hardware, so try the free fixes before spending anything.
Others may have a cleaner method.

Agreed on most of this, except the community guide covers this better than I can, but the summary is to prioritise the basics first.

Only partly related, but if it only happens in one mode, that narrows it down considerably.
That fixed it for me, at least.

Had the exact same issue. if it only happens in one mode, that narrows it down considerably.
