What finally made Apex Legends click for you?

Finally worked this out, so here is the write-up I wish I had found. Everything I read suggests it should just work, and for me it very much does not.

Two settings appear to interact in a way the menu does not hint at. Marking this solved once something actually works.

I went through this last month. measure before and after, otherwise you are just guessing whether it helped.

Depends on your setup, but broadly this changed for me after the last patch, so older threads may steer you wrong.

In my testing, the difference is real but small enough that you may not notice it while playing.

Worth a shot before anything drastic.

I went through this last month. the defaults are conservative on purpose, so there is usually headroom to gain.

Slightly different take — verify the files before anything else; it catches more problems than people expect.

Slightly different take — do not copy someone else’s config wholesale — start from defaults and adjust to your own setup.

This comes up a lot, so: the trick is to change one thing at a time and actually note the result before touching anything else.

Depends on your setup, but broadly the community guide covers this better than I can, but the summary is to prioritise the basics first.

For what it is worth, the safe move is the reversible one — you can always undo it if it makes things worse.

Agreed on most of this, except this changed for me after the last patch, so older threads may steer you wrong.

Counterpoint: it is almost always a setting rather than hardware, so try the free fixes before spending anything.

Not the answer you want, but the safe move is the reversible one — you can always undo it if it makes things worse.

Adding to the above: the wiki number is theoretical; real results are always a bit lower.

Agreed on most of this, except the averages hide the problem; look at the one percent lows instead.

Short version: keep a note of what you changed, otherwise you cannot undo it cleanly later.

Depends on your setup, but broadly region and server load matter more than most guides acknowledge.

That fixed it for me, at least.

Same boat here. the averages hide the problem; look at the one percent lows instead.

Counterpoint: it depends heavily on your specific setup, so take any single number with a grain of salt.
