Been chewing on this for a while, so I figured I would ask here. I compared notes with a friend and we got completely different outcomes on similar hardware.

Once it clicked, it felt obvious, but getting there took far longer than it should have. Let me know if more detail would help.

Speaking as someone who got it wrong initially, keep a note of what you changed, otherwise you cannot undo it cleanly later.

The usual fix here is if it only happens in one mode, that narrows it down considerably.

Worth checking first: do the cheap diagnostic first — it costs nothing and rules out half the causes.

Others may have a cleaner method.

For what it is worth, temperature is the usual culprit when performance degrades over a session.
