Masteries: which path for a support champion? (revisited)

Apologies if this has been covered — the older threads are all locked. I compared notes with a friend and we got completely different outcomes on similar hardware.

Once it clicked, it felt obvious, but getting there took far longer than it should have. Curious whether that matches what everyone else is seeing.

Quick correction to the above: temperature is the usual culprit when performance degrades over a session.

I went through this last month. it depends heavily on your specific setup, so take any single number with a grain of salt.

That fixed it for me, at least.

This is the bit people miss — verify the files before anything else; it catches more problems than people expect.

Only partly related, but region and server load matter more than most guides acknowledge.

Report back once you have tried it.

Short version: measure before and after, otherwise you are just guessing whether it helped.

Worth checking first: the defaults are conservative on purpose, so there is usually headroom to gain.

For what it is worth, give it a clean reinstall before assuming the hardware is at fault.

Speaking as someone who got it wrong initially, ignore the loudest advice; the boring answer is usually the correct one here.

Only partly related, but do not copy someone else’s config wholesale — start from defaults and adjust to your own setup.

This comes up a lot, so: the defaults are conservative on purpose, so there is usually headroom to gain.

Good luck, it is a common snag.

This comes up a lot, so: if it only happens in one mode, that narrows it down considerably.

Let us know which part worked.

Only partly related, but the trick is to change one thing at a time and actually note the result before touching anything else.

Only partly related, but do the cheap diagnostic first — it costs nothing and rules out half the causes.

In my testing, you get most of the benefit from the first adjustment; everything after that is marginal.
