Coming to VALORANT from a completely different genre

Coming back after a long break and trying to catch up. It seems to depend heavily on region, which nobody mentions anywhere.

Coming back after a long break and trying to catch up. It seems to depend heavily on region, which nobody mentions anywhere.

I compared notes with a friend and we got completely different outcomes on similar hardware. Marking this solved once something actually works.

In my testing, it is almost always a setting rather than hardware, so try the free fixes before spending anything.

Counterpoint: it is almost always a setting rather than hardware, so try the free fixes before spending anything.

Quick correction to the above: do the cheap diagnostic first — it costs nothing and rules out half the causes.

Only partly related, but it is almost always a setting rather than hardware, so try the free fixes before spending anything.

In my testing, the wiki number is theoretical; real results are always a bit lower.

Speaking as someone who got it wrong initially, you get most of the benefit from the first adjustment; everything after that is marginal.

I went through this last month. do not copy someone else’s config wholesale — start from defaults and adjust to your own setup.

Adding to the above: the trick is to change one thing at a time and actually note the result before touching anything else.

Speaking as someone who got it wrong initially, worth testing on a second account to rule out something profile-specific.

Worth checking first: the trick is to change one thing at a time and actually note the result before touching anything else.

Depends on your setup, but broadly measure before and after, otherwise you are just guessing whether it helped.

For what it is worth, nine times out of ten it is a driver or a background process, not the thing you suspect.

Quick correction to the above: give it a clean reinstall before assuming the hardware is at fault.

This is the bit people miss — keep a note of what you changed, otherwise you cannot undo it cleanly later.

In my testing, the difference is real but small enough that you may not notice it while playing.
