I got it working once and then could not repeat it, which is the frustrating part. Corrections welcome, especially if I got a detail wrong.

Counterpoint: this changed for me after the last patch, so older threads may steer you wrong.

Agreed on most of this, except the safe move is the reversible one — you can always undo it if it makes things worse.

Slightly different take — you get most of the benefit from the first adjustment; everything after that is marginal.

Quick correction to the above: the trick is to change one thing at a time and actually note the result before touching anything else.
Report back once you have tried it.

Quick correction to the above: it is almost always a setting rather than hardware, so try the free fixes before spending anything.

Only partly related, but the difference is real but small enough that you may not notice it while playing.
Let us know which part worked.

Not the answer you want, but the community guide covers this better than I can, but the summary is to prioritise the basics first.
That fixed it for me, at least.

Not the answer you want, but do the cheap diagnostic first — it costs nothing and rules out half the causes.
That fixed it for me, at least.

Adding to the above: the defaults are conservative on purpose, so there is usually headroom to gain.
Worth a shot before anything drastic.

In my testing, this changed for me after the last patch, so older threads may steer you wrong.

Worth checking first: ignore the loudest advice; the boring answer is usually the correct one here.

Depends on your setup, but broadly do not copy someone else’s config wholesale — start from defaults and adjust to your own setup.

Slightly different take — if it only happens in one mode, that narrows it down considerably.

From experience, do the cheap diagnostic first — it costs nothing and rules out half the causes.
Worth a shot before anything drastic.
