Rolling back to the previous version made the problem disappear entirely. Happy to be told I am overthinking it.

Had the exact same issue. the safe move is the reversible one — you can always undo it if it makes things worse.

Not the answer you want, but the trick is to change one thing at a time and actually note the result before touching anything else.

For what it is worth, you get most of the benefit from the first adjustment; everything after that is marginal.

I went through this last month. it is almost always a setting rather than hardware, so try the free fixes before spending anything.
