Rolling back to the previous version made the problem disappear entirely. Corrections welcome, especially if I got a detail wrong.

Depends on your setup, but broadly measure before and after, otherwise you are just guessing whether it helped.

Speaking as someone who got it wrong initially, keep a note of what you changed, otherwise you cannot undo it cleanly later.
Others may have a cleaner method.

In my testing, the safe move is the reversible one — you can always undo it if it makes things worse.

Worth checking first: do not copy someone else’s config wholesale — start from defaults and adjust to your own setup.

This comes up a lot, so: temperature is the usual culprit when performance degrades over a session.
