Vulkan or DirectX 12 backend giving you better frames?
Curious how everyone else approaches this, because my way feels clumsy. Half the advice online is a year out of date, which is why I wanted a current thread.

The default settings are clearly tuned for a different setup than mine. Will update the post if I find a cleaner solution.

Counterpoint: the trick is to change one thing at a time and actually note the result before touching anything else.
That fixed it for me, at least.

This comes up a lot, so: do not copy someone else’s config wholesale — start from defaults and adjust to your own setup.

Quick correction to the above: this changed for me after the last patch, so older threads may steer you wrong.

Had the exact same issue. the defaults are conservative on purpose, so there is usually headroom to gain.

Had the exact same issue. that behaviour is intentional, even though it is poorly explained in-game.

Short version: it depends heavily on your specific setup, so take any single number with a grain of salt.

Adding to the above: the trick is to change one thing at a time and actually note the result before touching anything else.

The usual fix here is the trick is to change one thing at a time and actually note the result before touching anything else.

This comes up a lot, so: the difference is real but small enough that you may not notice it while playing.

Quick correction to the above: ignore the loudest advice; the boring answer is usually the correct one here.
Report back once you have tried it.

I went through this last month. do the cheap diagnostic first — it costs nothing and rules out half the causes.

This is the bit people miss — keep a note of what you changed, otherwise you cannot undo it cleanly later.
